Q. Where can I launch my boat?
On Lake Sunapee for a fee at Sunapee State Park in Newbury (Phone: 763-5561. Web Site: www.nhparks.state.nh.us), or free at Sunapee Harbor (limited parking).

On Little Lake Sunapee from Little Sunapee Road (about 1/2 mile east of I-89 Exit 12), and on Pleasant Lake from the Elkins Business Loop (off Route 11, about 4 miles east of I-89 Exit 11).

Q. Where can I rent a boat?
Pontoon boat, canoe or row boat rentals are available at Sargents Marina in Georges Mills (Phone: 763-5036. Web Site: www.sargentsmarina.net). They also have a speed boat for water skiing. Pontoon boat rentals are also available at Sunapee Harbor Boat Rentals in Sunapee Harbor (Phone: 763-0111).

Kayak rentals are available at Village Sports in New London (Phone: 526-4946). Kayak, canoe or sail boat rentals are available at Kayak Country Paddlesports in Wilmot (Phone: 888-426-6775 / 526-6772. Web Site: www.kayakcountry.com). Kayak and canoe rentals are also available at Sunapee Sports in Sunapee Harbor.

Q. What hiking is available? Lots!
• Mount Sunapee in Newbury: Take the Summit Trail to the top. From the summit, you can either hike down the mountain, or hike to Lake Solitude on the back side of the mountain. You might also like the Andrew Brook Trail, on the backside of the mountain, off Mountain Road, which also takes you to Lake Solitude (great for families). (Phone: 763-2356. • Sunapee-Ragged-Kearsarge Greenway in New London: The SRK Greenway is a 75-mile trail linking the summits of Sunapee, Ragged and Kearsarge mountains. (Web Site: www.srkg.com)

• Mt. Kearsarge in Warner and Wilmot: May be accessed from either Rollins State Park (great for families, 1/2 mile to top) or Winslow State Park (steep and challenging). (Phone: 271-3556. Web Site: www.nhstateparks.org)

• The Fells in Newbury: There are several hikes within the compound, and trails that follow the eastern shore of Lake Sunapee. (Phone: 763-4789. Web Site: www.thefells.org)

Stop at the New London Information Booth for "Footpaths in New London" ($2) and the "Newbury Trail Map" ($1). You may also purchase trail maps at local town offices, Morgan Hill Book Store (Phone: 526-5850) and Village Sports in New London (Phone: 526-4946).

Q. What can my kids do on a rainy day?
There is so much to do when it rains. Here is just a sampling. Check our Area Events for more possibilities.

• New London Barn Playhouse in New London: Has a bi-weekly Monday theater program for children (Phone: 526-4631 / 526-6710. Web Site: www.nlrec.com/orgs/nlbarn.htm).

• Mt. Kearsarge Indian Museum in Warner: A Native American education and cultural center (Phone: 456-3244 . Web Site: www.indianmuseum.org)

• Hogan Sports Center in New London: Has an indoor pool and climbing wall (Phone: 526-3600).

• Mountainside Racquet & Fitness in New London: Has indoor tennis (Phone: 763-2356. Web Site: www.mountainsiderfc.com).

• New London Historical Society in New London: Has historically-furnished buildings and a transportation museum (Phone: 526-6564. Web Site: www.newlondonhistoricalsociety.org). Open Tuesday and Sunday afternoons in July and August, and by appointment.

• M.V. Sunapee Cruise Boat in Sunapee: Runs a narrated tour of Lake Sunapee (and you stay dry!). (Phone: 763-4030. Web Site: www.mvkearsarge.com)

• The Fort at No. 4 in Charlestown: An 18th Century "hands on" museum. (Phone: 888-367-8284. Web Site: www.fortat4.com).

• Kidders Garage (or "The Ice House") in New London: An "unofficial" car museum.

Local libraries have reading programs for children. There are also bowling alleys, movie theaters, nature and science museums, a roller skating rink, a planetarium and much, much more within 30 to 40 minutes.

Q. Where can I bike & rent bikes?
Bike maps are available at Village Sports in New London (Phone:
526-4948), and at the Information Booths in New London, Newbury or Sunapee. Bike rentals are available at Village Sports.

Q. What resorts are on Lake Sunapee?
There are no "resorts" directly on the lake. However, we have several fine lodging establishments within walking distance, including:

Q. When will the foliage peak?
Depends on the weather of course, but our leaf-season usually peaks in mid-October. Be sure to visit this web site in the Fall for up-to-date foliage reports.

Q. What winter activities other than skiing are available?
There's sledding at local golf courses, tubing at Ragged Mountain Resort (Phone: 768-3600. Web Site: www.raggedmountainresort.com), ice skating at local outdoor rinks in Sunapee, Newport, New London and Grantham.

Try snowshoeing at Norsk Cross Country Ski & Winter Sports Center in New London (Phone: 526-4685 / 800-42-NORSK. Web Site: www.skinorsk.com), at Eastman in Grantham (Phone: 863-4500 In Season. Web Site: www.eastmannh.com), and on the trails in New London.

You'll find Salmon, Lake Trout, Brook Trout, Small Mouth Bass, Pickerel, Perch, Sunfish, Hornpout, and Cusk in Lake Sunapee.

Q. What are the local newspapers?
We have two weekly newspapers that cover the region: Argus-Champion and InterTown Record. For daily newspapers, people in this region read The Valley News, The Concord Monitor, and The Union Leader, as well as other out-of-state newspapers.

Q. Are there playgrounds in the area?
Nearly every elementary school in the region has a playground that is open to the public when school is not in session. There are also playgrounds at the New London Outing Club on Park Side Drive, New London (Phone: 526-8321. Web Site: www.nlrec.com/orgs/nloc.htm).

Q. What beaches are there?
There are beaches on every lake in our region! Our largest public beach is Sunapee State Park Beach (fee to park) (Phone: 763-5561. Web Site: www.nhparks.state.nh.us). Town beaches require a permit from the lodging establishment at which you are staying. Inquire of your host.

Q. When and where are the Independence Day celebrations?
Many area towns offer firework displays, parades and other holiday activities. Celebrations depend on when the holiday falls; dates change as some towns celebrate on July 4 or July 3, or the nearest weekend.

Please check our Area Events as the holiday gets closer, or call the police department in the municipality about which you are seeking information.
